In this installment of GI Fellows Chat, Laura Sahyoun, MD, an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Weill Cornell Medicine, in New York City, chats with Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News about her experiences last year as an advanced IBD fellow. She shares what led her to gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease, her current research on the effect of language barriers on clinical care, and her experience transitioning to a leadership role teaching trainees. “IBD is such an exciting field to be in right now,” Dr. Sahyoun said, explaining that a focus on IBD allows the opportunity to “develop that long-term continuity with patients, which is really what drew me to medicine to begin with—that relationship you develop over time.”
