A prehabilitation program for liver transplantation that includes exercises such as sit-to-stand, stationary bicycling and use of dumbbells can help improve frailty metrics in patients with end-stage liver disease, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh. 

In evaluating patients for liver transplant, a dedicated physical therapist meets with patients to assess for frailty, and frail individuals are given a personalized exercise prescription, Fei-Pi (Phoebe) Lin, MD, an advanced transplant hepatology fellow at the university, told Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News.
