A new double balloon endoscope, EN-840T, is now commercially available in the United States, device manufacturer Fujifilm has announced. The imaging technology allows endoscopists to access the entire small intestine, and the 3.2-mm working channel is designed for procedures requiring hemostasis and balloon dilation as well as aspiration of blood or mucus for better visualization of the bowel wall.

“This scope is a major step forward for deep enteroscopy,” said Daniel J. Stein, MD, MPH, an assistant professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, in a press release. “Improvements in all areas—scope dynamics, optics and irrigation—will empower physicians to really push the envelope for deep small bowel diagnostics and therapeutics.”

The scope employs an image sensor with LED multi-light technology, with linked color and blue light imaging modes, according to the press release. The company also noted that the scope enables adaptive bending and “advanced force transmission technology” to improve scope maneuverability and allow “deeper insertion, even through post-surgical adhesions of the intestinal tract.”

The company said it plans to demonstrate the scope at DDW 2025.
