AGA Drafts New Recommendations for Opioid-Induced Constipation

Washington—Draft guidelines from the American Gastroenterological Association recommend that only laxatives and peripherally acting mu-opioid receptor antagonists be used for the pharmaceutical treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC).

The document, presented during the 2018 Digestive Disease Week, advises use of intestinal secretagogues and 5-HT agonists, but the guidelines panelists did not make a recommendation regarding use of these agents due to insufficient data, they
