Pot Use Has Hazy Link to Acute Pancreatitis

Cannabis use does not worsen the severity of acute pancreatitis, according to a study presented at the 2017 Digestive Disease Week. The study, the largest to date examining cannabis use in acute pancreatitis, found that roughly 10% of patients with acute pancreatitis used cannabis.

Acute pancreatitis results mainly from biliary system disorders, alcohol consumption and infections, but it also can be caused by certain antibiotics, immunosuppressants, antihypertensives, aspirin and valproic acid.
