Patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) caused by the microorganism Klebisella appear to do worse than patients whose condition is caused by another microbe, researchers have found.
Standard treatment protocols for SBP are well established, with different antibiotics prescribed depending on whether the infection is nosocomial or community acquired. At one time, knowing the exact bacterium that caused a given case of SBP did not guide treatment decisions, said Takeshi Saito, MD,
