Liver Experts Seek To Prevent ‘Futile’ Resections

People with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver with more than three lesions are at much greater risk for experiencing a “futile” resection than those with less aggressive disease, researchers have found.

In light of the findings, the investigators recommended that institutions consider longer induction therapy or less invasive alternative therapies for these patients, given that the likelihood of a nontherapeutic hepatectomy is substantial.
