Study Appears to Confirm Gender Bias In Colorectal Surgery Training

Women get less robot time, a difference not explained by skill level, researchers say

Cleveland—A long-standing claim in surgical education is that female trainees are treated differently from their male colleagues. A study presented at the 2019 annual meeting of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons backs up this claim with evidence.

Female trainees in colorectal surgery get significantly less time at the robotic console than male trainees when working with male attendings, according to the study. This is not the case when trainees
