Same-day discharge is safe in selected patients following esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) when done by experienced endoscopists at high-volume centers, researchers have found.
The retrospective series of 96 patients at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., showed that 41 were discharged and 55 were admitted for further observation. All but two admitted patients (96.4%) were discharged within 24 hours.
