San Diego—A flexible endoscope guided by an external magnet could allow for hands-free, or nearly so, navigation of the colon from the anus to the cecum, according to the gastroenterologists developing the device.
Testing the magnetic flexible endoscope (MFE) in a human colon model, endoscopists achieved cecal intubation using semi-autonomous control in 100% of cases, with a mean procedure time of less than six minutes.
