Legalizing recreational use of marijuana may be related to increased hospitalizations for hyperemesis, researchers at Mayo Clinic have found.
Reviewing state inpatient databases for Arizona, Kentucky, Maryland and Washington for 2010-2016, the Mayo group found that legalization of recreational marijuana was associated with an increase of 0.68 hospitalizations per 100,000 people for cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) (P<0.05), about half of which were charged to Medicaid.
