Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) is frequently carried by healthy children, according to data presented at the 2022 ASM Microbe Conference, in Washington, D.C. (session S200).
“DEC is becoming recognized as an important pediatric pathogen” identified as a factor in the spread of enteritis among young children, particularly those less than 5 years of age, said Maria Pavlova, PhD, an assistant professor at the National Center of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, in Sofia,
