Metabolic Factors May Link NAFLD, Alcoholic Liver Disease

A single-center study conducted in Denmark has found a positive association between metabolic syndrome and increased fibrosis in patients with alcoholic liver disease, suggesting an overlap between factors causing alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

The study also identified obesity and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol as independent risk factors for the severity of alcoholic liver disease.
