A hospitalized patient whose room was previously occupied by someone with Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is 27% more likely to become infected with the pathogen than someone whose room did not previously house an infected patient, according to data from nearly 219,000 patients.
“Our study demonstrates that patient exposure to a room previously occupied by a patient with CDI within the previous 90 days or one year may increase the risk for CDI in the current occupant,” wrote
