Polyps’ CIMP-High Status Portends Advanced Adenomas

Epigenetic changes in colon polyps appear to predict which patients are likely to develop more aggressive lesions, a new study has found.

High levels of methylation on CpG islands (CIMP-H) in polyps found during colonoscopy confer a 10-fold increased risk for subsequent advanced metachronous lesions, according to the study.

“The genetic profiling of polyps could go beyond size and number of baseline polyps in the prediction of advanced metachronous lesions. Genetic profiling could be a
