A new strain of Escherichia coli has been discovered that is both highly virulent and resistant to some antibiotics.
The newly identified mutation of antibiotic-resistant E. coli suggests that some existing carbapenems will not be effective against it, according to Alan McNally, PhD, a professor of microbial evolutionary genomics at the University of Birmingham College of Medical and Dental Sciences, in England (Nat Commun 2024;15[1]:494).
