Opioid Use Linked to Potential Constipation Mechanisms

Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, have found that recent opioid use was associated with both defecation dysfunction and rectal hyposensitivity in people with chronic constipation. The findings led the investigators to question whether the two conditions might play a role in the development of opioid-induced constipation (OIC).
