Boston—A study using one of the world’s largest twin cohorts has found an association between the diversity of the gut microbiome and chronic widespread pain.
Indeed, patients with a chronic pain condition demonstrated a decrease in healthy bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes and an increase in harmful bacteria of the phyla Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria.
“On average, people with chronic widespread pain have increased BMI [body mass index],” said Frances M.K.
