Smile, Your Candidiasis Is on Camera!

Endoscopy alone diagnoses most cases of esophageal fungus

Brush cytology and biopsies may be unnecessary for the diagnosis of most cases of esophageal candidiasis, researchers have found.

A single-center study showed that clinicians accurately diagnosed 88% of candidiasis cases using endoscopic visualization alone, suggesting the possibility of substantial cost savings in these patients. The results were presented at the 2015 annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (poster 262).
