People found to have advanced adenomas during screening colonoscopy are more than three times as likely to develop colorectal cancer over time as those without the lesions, new research shows.
The study included nearly 16,000 men and women in the United States. Of the total, 2,882 (17.8%) had at least one advanced adenoma at initial screening; 5,068 (31.4%) had a nonadvanced adenoma; and 7,895 (49.4%) had no adenomas. After an average of roughly 10 years of follow-up, the incidence of CRC was
