Not long ago, my friend and colleague Candace Henley and I stood in the middle of Michigan Avenue in Chicago, holding signs that implored people passing by to get a screening test for colon cancer. Standing there on that cold March morning, I hoped the message would resonate. I wondered how many of the people passing by in their cars and on foot who saw our signs got the message, and would make an appointment to be tested.
We shouldn’t have had to take this action.
