Inpatient gastroenterology consultants may not always follow up on tests they recommend, according to a new study.
Data collected at a single academic medical center in St. Louis show that nearly 22% of such tests with findings requiring further action did not have a documented follow-up.
Other large academic centers may face similar issues because GI consultants tend to be very busy, said Benjamin E. Cassell, MD, assistant professor at the University of Colorado Denver, who led the study.
