Liver stiffness assessed by magnetic resonance elastography is associated with adverse liver-related outcomes including varices needing treatment, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and hepatocellular carcinoma, according to research presented at the 2022 International Liver Congress (abstract FRI037) and published in Gastroenterology (2022;S0016-5085[22]00735-1).
“Our findings support MRE’s use as a stand-alone test in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD],” said
