Risk for Kidney Damage After Liver Transplant:

It's in the Beholder of the Eye

 

The first study of its kind has demonstrated that certain measures of the eye may help identify patients with cirrhosis who are at high risk for postoperative renal impairment after liver transplant.

Researchers in Scotland found that chorioretinal thinning and reduced macular volume, as measured by noninvasive optical coherence tomography (OCT), were both strongly correlated with an impaired estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in this population of patients.

“Since creatinine
