Eliminating FODMAPs Effective for Fecal Incontinence

Philadelphia—A diet optimized to improve stool consistency appears to provide significant benefit to many patients with fecal incontinence, new research shows.

The retrospective analysis of an ongoing randomized trial found that more than one-third of patients reported complete resolution of their incontinence after going on the diet low in fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols (FODMAPs).

“I am pretty enthusiastic,” said Stacy B. Menees, MD, an
