Interval colon cancer after colonoscopy occurs in 6% to 8% of patients. Reasons for this include poor bowel prep, a history of adenoma, poor visibility behind mucosal folds and incomplete resection of polyps. Incomplete resection of polyps measuring at least 20 mm is of great concern, with 15% to 20% of patients having residual polyps after polypectomy.
