AGA Update Casts Wider Net, Highlights Role of Noninvasive Tools for BE Screening

In a move that may greatly expand the detection and treatment of Barrett’s esophagus, a new American Gastroenterological Association Clinical Practice Update suggests that patients without chronic reflux symptoms should be considered for BE/esophageal cancer screening. An important advance from this document is the emphasis on using risk factors outside of gastroesophageal reflux disease when considering which patients should undergo screening.
