Bile Acids May Have Key Role in Refractory GERD

A novel bile acid sequestrant used as an adjunct to therapy with proton pump inhibitors significantly reduced reflux symptoms, researchers have found. The drug, which is currently in phase 3 trials, could help the roughly 30% of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease that does not respond adequately to PPIs, according to the investigators.
