Confounded by Serrated Polyps? Pathologists Are, Too

San Francisco—Serrated polyps represent a spectrum of neoplasms with overlapping histopathologic features. This overlap creates a challenge for interpretation and precise classification, which can lead to mismanagement of these patients, according to Carolyn Compton, MD, PhD, professor of life sciences at Arizona State University, in Tempe.

At the 2016 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium, Dr. Compton described why serrated polyps are important, and how they are frequently missed by
