Artificial intelligence entered the medical arena more than 30 years ago with systems designed to build on physician expertise. Until recently, the development of AI has been fairly gradual, with forays into genomics, electronic health records and robot-assisted surgery.
But now, the overlapping disciplines of AI, machine learning (ML) and deep learning are rapidly forging ahead in drug development, preclinical research, personalized health care and in applications for different specialties. At
